While searching for the product that has been popular and known for the whole world, I’ve found this interesting marketing plan. It was an Apple’s iPhone marketing plan. Since the source is not really reliable, I cannot help but thinking it is not genuine. However, if it is a genuine one, then I’m fortunate to have this example to study marketing. Actually, it contains all the aspects that I’ve studied in the Marketing class so far. It has terms such as target segment, SWOT, and strategies, and there are lot more terms that I’d be learning later on. It helped me much to review on the things talked about in the class.
iPhone is a piece of striking innovation all over the world. Although it does not fully support Korean fonts and poorly compatible with Korean telecoms, they are so popularly known and some Koreans are hoping to get one of those. The rumors say that iPhone has become a great threat to Korean phone makers. As such, large numbers of people are craving it.
Looking at the iPhone’s target segment, I found out that it was targeting two different kinds of people. Ones are middle-upper income professionals, and the other ones are students (highschool, college and graduate). I felt that their target segment is really broad but when you come to think of it, since people want things to be done in one place with one machine, it has targeted the segment well and tried to add sufficient features into the machine. Apple wanted to differentiate its product from PDA because the character of the machine resembles to PDAs. So what it did was to emphasize their extravagant features: features that most high-end phones have, iPod features plus the web browsing feature.
I have a PDA right now which is a HP brand and I’ve used it since I was a highschool. Back in my highschool years, some of my highschool friends were getting them to take notes in class and listen to music. So I also bought it and enjoyed the usefulness of the gadget. However, I was not contented because of other numerous gadgets I have to put in my pocket and carry them around campus. I had to carry my cellular, PDA, and a digital camera around the campus to increase the efficiency in my life. Plus I was discontented with my PDA because the internet only works when it is connected to PCs or use blue tooth function which never really worked when I’d tried for several times. I gave up! Because of those problems, and now that I have a laptop (I used PDA as a substitute gadget of laptop), I don’t use it anymore and never looked at new PDA products on the internet. But this Apple brand came up with this extravagant yet slim gadget that solved my problem. It only used up a small space in the pockets of its users, and this is only about 300 ~ 400 dollars. I think this is pretty reasonable with all the features on board.
